Shopify Development for London Retail Teams

Sell the set your team can actually fulfil.

A curated set can make a shopping decision easier, provided its product options and fulfilment record remain clear. For a London retailer commissioning Shopify development, the important details may be the components, their stock and the way an order reaches the packing team. Softglimmer plans that flow alongside the storefront. We agree the supported bundle approach, review realistic baskets and document how the merchant maintains the offer after launch. Delivery is remote from our Ranchi studio, with a store owner responsible for catalogue and policy decisions.

A hypothetical working example

A gift set looks available even though one component has run out.

Picture a hypothetical London homewares retailer selling a fixed gift set containing a mug, a cloth and a small tray. This is a planning scenario, not a named Softglimmer client. The products can also be sold individually. A standalone set quantity maintained by hand may drift away from component availability, leaving the merchant to resolve an order the storefront should have understood better.

Choose fixed or customer-built deliberately

A fixed set and a customer-built assortment are different requirements. Document the products, allowed choices and the rule for an unavailable selection. Start with a supported fixed set when it answers the actual buying need. A custom selection interface needs its own app or implementation review; attractive selectors do not establish platform compatibility.

Review the order beyond the product page

The shopper, packing team and support contact need to agree about what was purchased. Check the basket, checkout, notification and staff order view using the same sample set. The component list should remain understandable when fulfilment or a return is handled at item level, with merchant-approved wording for those situations.

Before implementation

Confirm the bundle approach before customising the storefront.

These decisions set a useful boundary for the first release.

01

Match the app to the selling model

Shopify's first-party Bundles app supports fixed bundles and multipacks; mix-and-match is a different implementation choice. We review the merchant's current checkout, sales channels and installed apps against official eligibility guidance. The brief should identify which combination will be tested rather than assuming every store feature works together.

02

Keep component stock authoritative

Shopify's documented bundle availability calculation follows component quantities and their tracking settings. We inspect those settings and test an unavailable component, an individual sale and an order containing more than one set. Stock managed by an external system needs an explicit ownership and synchronisation decision.

03

Plan catalogue changes after launch

Shopify documents that a component price change does not automatically update the bundle price in its Bundles app. Assign the merchant a review step for price and product changes. The handover should show how to check the published offer after editing a component so that the storefront and agreed commercial terms stay aligned.

What you receive

A storefront and merchant workflow that stay connected.

Deliverables follow the reviewed scope and its acceptance responsibilities.

01

A reviewed bundle catalogue

The agreed set structure records product identifiers, component quantities, variant choices and customer-facing descriptions. Images show the actual included items and any exclusions. We review the catalogue with the merchant before applying the design so a set name or photograph does not imply an item the order will not contain.

02

A tested set-to-order journey

The working release connects the selected offer to a supported basket and checkout flow. Test cases cover availability, quantities and the information seen by fulfilment staff. Merchant-approved test orders confirm the journey within the agreed payment setup; they are separate from real customer purchases.

03

An editing and app ownership guide

The guide identifies store access, apps, recurring dependencies and the steps for reviewing a changed component or offer. The merchant knows who updates product copy and who approves a release. Additional sales channels, advanced bundle builders and ongoing catalogue support are scoped against their actual requirements.

Project preparation

Walk one gift set through the full operating process.

Prepare these examples with the person who owns the working process.

Supply the component records

Bring product identifiers, approved images and the permitted variant combinations for one representative set. Explain whether the products are also sold separately. Include an example of a component becoming unavailable. This is enough to compare supported approaches before designing a large gift catalogue.

Check stock settings and fulfilment

Review component tracking and the option to continue selling without stock, since these affect availability. The Shopify Bundles app documents overall stock rather than location-specific bundle inventory. If more than one location fulfils orders, review whether the agreed component combination can actually be packed there. Record the intended result and test it before the packing team encounters a real order.

Review fulfilment and service messages

Ask the packing owner and support contact to read the same sample order. Check quantities, selected options and any message the customer expects to accompany the set. The merchant supplies its own delivery and returns wording. We make those reviewed decisions visible without inventing policy terms or promising eligibility for every app.

Choose a maintainable release boundary

Decide which sets, channels and theme areas are included in the first release. Keep a record of the approved configuration and the method for restoring the earlier theme if needed. A focused release can prove the operating journey before the team adds a customer-built assortment or another fulfilment connection.

Questions before commissioning the work.

Use these answers to make the next conversation specific.

Can customers assemble their own gift set?

Potentially, after the app and store setup have been reviewed. A customer-built mix-and-match offer differs from a fixed bundle in Shopify's documentation. We check the required choices, inventory behaviour and supported implementation before adding it to scope. A simpler fixed set may be the clearer first release when the assortment is already curated.

Should the bundle have a separate stock count?

We first identify how the supported implementation derives availability from its components. Maintaining an unrelated count by hand can create a second source of truth. If external inventory software participates, the brief names the owner of each quantity and defines how disagreements and failed updates are handled.

Can a London store owner work with your team remotely?

Yes. We agree review windows, merchant access and written sign-off points across time zones. Store ownership and policy approval remain with your business. Softglimmer delivers from Ranchi; this guide describes remote availability for London retailers and does not claim a London office or a local gift-set client.
